Rental Policies

Reserve Your Stay

To apply for a Mountain House stay, up to one year in advance, a party member must be selected as the Responsible Member. When submitting your forms, the Responsible Member must read, complete, and return a Group Reservation form, at least one Individual Information form, and attach a backcountry and/or climbing resume, if available. We require parties to execute these documents utilizing electronic signature via email, or scan documents and then email, prior to a scheduled stay. Our email address is Reservation requests are on a first come, first served, basis. If a party is accepted, then any party member having not provided a completed Individual Information form must do so, and every party member must execute a Participant Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreement form as well as review a Briefing Guide the day of their departure from Talkeetna to the Mountain House. The form and Briefing Guide will be emailed to the Responsible Member after a reservation is confirmed. Additional copies of the form and Briefing Guide will be available at K2 Aviation.

The Waitlist

Each season, cancellations are made and the newly available dates are offered to people who would like to be on the waitlist. Contact us with a completed Group Reservation form and Individual Information form with contact information. Pick a time frame (month and number of nights) to be placed on the list. A credit card (Visa or MasterCard) is required for placement on the waitlist.

Travel Insurance

We recommend that you purchase travel insurance immediately after paying your deposit. This special insurance may cover costs if you are unable to join your party due to personal emergency, personal or family medical reasons, or if a party is canceled for reasons beyond our control. It may also cover evacuation and medical expenses in the result of illness or injury. The Mountain House is not responsible for costs associated with canceled enrollment, programs that cancel for reasons beyond the our control, or evacuations from the mountains. Check with your travel agent for policies or try Travel Guard for insurance.

Cancellation & Refund Policy

Cancellations must be made at least 60 days prior to the start date of your stay. Once we receive notification of the cancellation we will issue a refund of $50 per person, per night. If cancellations are made less than 60 days prior to the start date of the intended stay there will be no refund. We recommend that you purchase cancellation insurance, you can check with a travel agent for policies or try Travel Guard for insurance.

Cancellation & Transfer Policy

Although unlikely, we reserve the right to cancel your Mountain House stay. If we cancel, the rental balance, which you have already paid, will be refunded to you. We are not responsible for other personal costs associated in these cases. If you wish to transfer the dates of your intended stay, the request must be made 90 days prior to the start date of the original reserved days. If the transfer is approved, there will be a $100 transfer fee that will be due immediately. Transfers can only be made within the same calendar year

Weathered-out Policy; Reservation Fee

No one can control the weather. With this said, visitors who are unable to fly to the Mountain House due to weather will be refunded $50 per person, per night. The amount retained by us is considered a Reservation Fee. If any of the days reserved are flyable then we cannot offer any refund for those days. K2 Aviation decides on flying conditions.

Weathered-in Policy

If you are weathered-in at the Mountain House you will not be charged for additional nights.

Check-in at K2 Aviation

Please check-in at K2 Aviation two hours before your scheduled departure.  K2 Aviation will verify that your gear and paperwork are in order, cover general procedures, and will issue a Mountain House key. Please respect your reservation dates: KEYS WILL NOT BE ISSUED EARLY.

Camping Before or After a Mountain House Stay

Some of you may wish to camp on the Ruth Glacier before or after your Mountain House stay. This is not recommended. If this is something you wish to do please be aware that we will not issue a Mountain House key prior to your scheduled stay.

Please Note Your Responsibilities

1) All persons traveling to or using the Mountain House will be required to follow the policies and procedures of Mountain House, LLC and of the guides that have access to the Mountain House. 2) All persons traveling to or using the Mountain House will be required to sign a Participant Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims, Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreement in favor of Mountain House, LLC, and Briefing Guide, before departing to the Mountain House. 3) Each person traveling to or using the Mountain House agrees and acknowledges when they sign up to stay at the Mountain House that they have primary responsibility for their own safety and they are agreeing they are ULTIMATELY RESPONSIBLE for their own safety during travel to or use of the Mountain House.
